Claire Walka was born in Stuttgart in 1978 and studied film and audiovisual media at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach am Main and the Fakultat de Belles Arts Barcelona. She has been working as a freelance director and editor in Hamburg since 2007.

She creates short films of all genres that have been shown and won awards at international film festivals. Promenade d’après-midi, for example, was shown at the Next Generation 2006 screening by German Films in Cannes, Scharrenhauser Architecture won the Deutscher Wirtschaftsfilmpreis 2011 (German Business Film Prize) and also Traces of light, Hotel Bellevue, Doors and The World through… Pink Feathers won several international awards. In 2008 Claire Walka was invited to the Berlinale Talentcampus.
Claire Walka also publishes short stories and poetry in anthologies or magazines.

In 2022 she is fellowship holder at GEDOK Haus Lübeck, in 2021, she was selected for the Nürnberger Autorenstipendium Drehbuch (Nuremberg screenwriting fellowship), in 2019 she was fellowship holder at the Villa Willemsen (funded by the Hamburg Department of Culture) and in 2018 at Waldmühle Soltau, in 2013 she was selected for the Schreibwerkstatt der Jürgen Ponto Stiftung (Writing Workshop of the Jürgen Ponto Foundation) and in 2010 she was fellowship holder at Künstlerhaus Lauenburg (funded by the state of Schleswig Holstein).
She has also been invited several times to the Debütantenbörse of the Literaturzentrum Hamburg at Literaturhaus .
Claire Walka is a member of Forum Hamburger Autorinnen und Autoren and writers‘ room Hamburg.
